Finance, Benefits Resources for Military Families

Families of service members who are recovering from injuries can find help tapping into benefits and handling finances from both military and private sources.

--The Military Severely Injured Center is the central Defense Department support office. Call 1-888-774-1361 or visit www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil.

Each branch of the service also has a program that assists disabled soldiers and their families. They can be accessed from the branches' main websites.

--The National Resource Directory is an online guide to more than 11,000 programs and services for wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and families. Visit www.nationalresourcedirectory.gov. For financial planning assistance: -- USAA, the financial services company used by many service members, has financial planners who are familiar with military life and the programs available to help service members. Call 877-314-2255 or visit www.usaa.com.

Nonprofit organizations that can provide help or assist tapping community resources:
